Minister Deenihan congratulates Richard Mosse on 2014 Deutsche Börse Photography Prize

Tuesday, 13th May—The Minister for Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht, Jimmy Deenihan T.D. has congratulated Richard Mosse on winning the Deutsche Börse Photography Prize 2014 for his work, The Enclave. This exhibition was presented at Ireland's Pavilion at the Venice Biennale, which is an initiative of Culture Ireland of the Department of Arts Heritage and the Gaeltacht in partnership with the Arts Council.

The Deutsche Börse Photography Prize is awarded to a photographer of any nationality for their significant contribution to the medium of photography either through an exhibition or publication, in Europe between 1 October 2012 and 30 September 2013.

Commenting on Richard’s success Minister Deenihan said: “Richard's work is outstanding and this prize is so deserved for his Venice exhibition which represented Ireland so well at the Biennale, the leading visual arts showcase in the world. Richard's career has advanced since his exhibition at Venice and he has contributed in highlighting the creative talent of Ireland's artists.”

The jury for the Deutsche Börse Photography Prize praised Richard Mosse for “innovatively addressing the representation of war”. They commended the manner in which he combined form and content to draw attention to a conflict, which despite costing the lives of millions of people has largely gone unnoticed by the West.
