Minister Coveney announces funding of €180,000 towards the purchase of book-stock commemorating the 1916 Easter Rising

The Minister for Housing, Planning, Community and Local Government, Simon Coveney TD, today (02 August 2016) announced funding of €180,000 for local authorities to purchase book-stock commemorating 1916 Easter Rising.

Announcing the funding, the Minister said, “I am delighted to announce this funding for public libraries. It will support the purchase of books, CDs, DVDs, and e-resources and enhance the collection of 1916 Easter Rising material.”
It is expected that the additional stock will be available in libraries by October 2016 and the public are encouraged to visit their local library to view and borrow the material. Library membership is free and there are extensive resources for people to avail of.
The Minister added “There is great demand for 1916 material during this important centenary year, particularly among younger people who are eager to learn about our history and our heritage. It is vital to ensure that everyone has access to material. I am confident that by increasing the 1916 book-stock it will further develop our knowledge and respect for this significant period in Ireland’s history and thus enhance our cultural heritage.”
