Minister of State Kyne presents Gnó le Gaeilge 2017 awards in Knockranny House Hotel, Westport

Minister of State for Gaeltacht Affairs, Seán Kyne T.D., has this evening presented winners with their awards at the Gnó le Gaeilge awards ceremony in Westport.

The competition is run by Gnó Mhaigh Eo, which has been promoting the Irish language among County Mayo’s business sector for ten years and which encourages the business community to recognise the language as an economic resource. The Department of Arts, Heritage, Regional, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs has provided funding of over €100,000 per year to Gnó Mhaigh Eo over the same period.

Speaking at the awards ceremony, Minister of State Kyne said:
“I welcome the emphasis that these businesses and the Gnó le Gaeilge Awards place on the importance of providing an Irish-language Service to customers and those who wish to conduct their business through Irish. By taking part in these Awards, you display a clear understanding of the value you place on one of the best natural resources we have, our own native language."
