Minister Ring congratulates Ireland Women’s Cricket Team

Minister of State for Tourism and Sport Michael Ring has today (Thursday) congratulated the Ireland Women’s Cricket Team on securing qualification to the T20 World Cup in India next year by beating Scotland in the semi-final of the T20 World Cup qualifier this morning.

Minister Ring said: ‘This is a fantastic achievement for the team and for everyone involved in women’s cricket in Ireland. I wish the team the very best of luck in the final against Bangladesh on Saturday and I look forward to watching them on their World Cup journey next year. This is another wonderful success for Irish sport and in particular for women’s sport in Ireland. I am sure that the team’s qualification for the World T20 will inspire more women and girls to get involved in cricket.”

Ireland have been unbeaten in the qualifying tournament, having beaten the Netherlands, China, Zimbabwe and now Scotland to reach the final, where they will play Bangladesh who are also unbeaten and have also qualified for the T20 World Cup in 2016.

Ireland plays Bangladesh in the qualifier final with play due to start at 6.45am Saturday 5th December (Irish time).
