Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport Shane Ross TD, and Minister of State for Tourism and Sport Brendan Griffin TD,  have today welcomed the announcement that the Olympic Council of Ireland (OCI) and THG have agreed to terminate their contract relating to ticketing arrangements for Olympic Games up to 2026.

Speaking today Minister Ross said: “The termination of this contract is a very welcome development. Subject to other matters in the Report being addressed satisfactorily, particularly corporate governance recommendations, we are now close to a position where we can restore normal funding arrangements so that the athletes will be top priority. Preparations for Tokyo 2020 must be the focus of attention for the OCI, Sport Ireland, the National Governing Bodies of Sport.”

Minister Griffin also stated that: “the THG contracts into the future were a significant concern for both Minister Ross and I. I believe that significant progress has been achieved by the OCI this year under the leadership of President Sarah Keane and today’s announcement shows their commitment to addressing legacy issues in a satisfactory manner. We look forward to hearing from the OCI in relation to further progress made on recommendations in the Moran Inquiry Report, and I hope that we can now begin to focus on the next Summer Olympic Games in Tokyo in 2020.”
