Ministers wish Irish team success tonight

Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport, Shane Ross TD and Minister of State for Tourism and Sport, Brendan Griffin TD, today wished the Republic of Ireland soccer team well in tonight's crucial match in Cardiff.

Speaking today Minister Ross said: “I want to wish the squad, the management and all the backroom staff of the Republic of Ireland team every success as their World Cup qualifying campaign reaches a critical stage with the crucial match against our Welsh neighbours in Cardiff this evening.  We are anticipating a closely fought make-or-break encounter as both teams seek to take a step closer to the FIFA World Cup in Russia 2018. I know that the Irish team will have strong and vocal support in Cardiff City Stadium tonight and wish our travelling fans, who have always represented our country so well, a safe and memorable occasion”.

Minister Griffin added: “As the Qualifying Group D stage reaches its climax it is still very much all to play for.  It's sure to be a nerve-jangling cup-final atmosphere as two ancient but close sporting rivals vie for a chance of advancing to another major tournament. I wish Martin O'Neill and the entire Irish squad the very best on the field as they carry the nation's hopes”.
