Tánaiste publishes Second Report of the Independent Oversight Authority for the Garda Fixed Charge Processing System Cancellation Policy

Judge Matthew Deery confirms substantial compliance with Fixed Charge Processing System policy and procedures

The Tánaiste and Minister for Justice and Equality, Frances Fitzgerald TD has, published the second annual report of the Independent Oversight Authority for the Garda Fixed Charge Processing System (FCPS) Cancellation Policy.

Judge Matthew Deery was appointed as the sole Independent Oversight Authority by the in January 2015. The appointment followed a recommendation contained in the Garda Professional Standards Unit (GPSU) report, “Examination of the Procedures, Policy and Decision-Making Processes in relation to Cancellations on the Fixed Charge Processing System of Road Traffic-related Offences”.

The report notes that the implementation of most of the recommendations “has immensely strengthened the (FCPS) system”.

The Tánaiste said: “The report confirms ‘substantial compliance’ with Fixed Charge Processing System policy and procedures. Judge Deery’s findings greatly assist in maximising enforcement of the FCPS, which will improve road safety for all.”
