Remarks by the Tánaiste, Joan Burton T.D. at the Indeed.com jobs announcement, Wednesday, 11 November 2015

Good morning.
It’s a pleasure to be here this morning for this very significant and welcome announcement.
They say politicians are fond of statistics.
As a politician and a chartered accountant, I’m even fonder of statistics.
And Indeed’s statistics are truly astonishing.
Some 180 million people use Indeed’s services each month.
In Ireland alone, Indeed had over 800,000 unique visitors last month – with 54% of searches now via mobile or tablet.
Indeed has gone from strength to strength since it opened its headquarters here in 2012 and today’s announcement continues that success story.
As Minister for Social Protection, my abiding focus since entering government has been on helping jobseekers back to work.
We changed the way the Department operates, so that it is now an active and engaged public employment service.
And as part of that, we ensured that our services are available to jobseekers and employers.
So we help jobseekers find work, training or education, and we help employers find great recruits.
In that respect, I know Indeed takes a very similar approach.
You can search the site as a jobseeker looking for opportunities.
And you can search it as an employer looking for CVs.
This is exactly the kind of service that jobseekers and employers want – fast, comprehensive and accessible.
And it’s an added bonus that Indeed’s success story means you are now hiring more recruits of your own.
Those jobs will help further fuel Ireland’s recovery, with unemployment now down from a crisis peak of more than 15% to 9.3% now.
We’ve more work to do, but I’m determined that we will reach our target of full employment by 2018.
I would like to congratulate all at Indeed for today’s announcement and wish you the very best of success with your forthcoming expansion.
