Minister Deenihan welcomes approval of Additional Accommodation for Tralee Community College

Jimmy Deenihan T.D., Minister for Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht, has welcomed the approval by his colleague Minister for Education and Skills, Ruairí Quinn T.D., that additional accommodation has been approved in respect of Tralee Community College (70550H).

Tralee Community College will be building two new Classroom ASD Units along with the refurbishment of mainstream provision and PLC provision.

ASD Units cater for the needs of children with Autism who are of school – going age and are attached to mainstream and special schools. The pupil-teacher ratio in these Units is 6:1 and pupils are further supported by a minimum of two Special Needs Assistants per class.

Commenting on the announcement, Minister Deenihan said:

“I am pleased with this announcement by Minister Quinn that new ASD Units will be provided for Tralee Community College. I hope that the works will commence as soon as possible, as I am sure the new classrooms will be of great benefit to the pupils and teachers there.”
