Jim Moore appointed as Chairperson of the Governing Body of Waterford Institute of Technology

The Minister for Education and Skills, Mr. Richard Bruton, T.D., has today (Friday) appointed Mr. Jim Moore as Chairperson of the Governing Body of the Waterford Institute of Technology (WIT).
The appointment of Mr. Moore follows an open call for expressions of interest run by the Public Appointments Service.
The Department of Education and Skills advised the Minister that Mr. Jim Moore was the most suitable candidate to fill the position.
Institutes of Technology have a key role in driving regional development and jobs growth. Mr. Jim Moore’s vast experience and knowledge, in the public, private and voluntary sectors, will ensure that WIT can be a strong driver of economic development and jobs growth in the South East region.
Mr. Moore brings great experience from the public service and has board experience, including as chair. He is a business-owner, as founder and managing director of Haven Maritime, based in the South East. He is also a qualified engineer, with professional qualifications from Cork Institute of Technology, University College Dublin, University of Limerick, and the Institute of Public Administration. Mr. Moore also has a strong education background, having served on Waterford/Wexford Education and Training Board, the National Parents Council, the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment and Quality and Qualifications Ireland (QQI).

Minister Bruton welcomed the appointment:

He will ensure that WIT can provide the skilled workers that are needed to ensure the future competitiveness and strength of the region.

Mr. Moore has considerable experience in the education sector. He has been a member of the Board of Quality and Qualifications Ireland (QQI), and was the Chair of QQI’s Policies and Standards Committee and a member of QQI’s Audit and Risk Committee. He was also a member of the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NCCA) and was previously President of the National Parents Council (post-primary).
Mr. Moore also has a strong background within the wider public service, playing key roles in the Waterford / Wexford Education and Training Board, Wexford County Council, and the Wexford Chamber of Commerce. Mr Moore is currently a member of Wexford County Council.
