€2.7 M Invested in State of the Art New School

The Minister for Education and Skills, Mr. Richard Bruton T.D., today officially opened the new school building for Gaelscoil Philib Barún. The modern, state of the art, facilities include 8 Classrooms, a General Purpose Room and ancillary accommodation.
This new school building for Gaelscoil Philib Barún was delivered under the Department’s School Construction Programme. Construction work commenced in September 2015 with the first students arriving in September 2016.

The official opening was performed today by Minister Bruton. Through the Government’s school capital investment programme we are committed to investing hundreds of millions to deliver new schools and school extensions across the country.

Minister Bruton said:

“I am delighted to visit Gaelscoil Philib Barún in Tramore, Co. Waterford, today to open their new school. Through the Action Plan for Education, which aims to make the Irish education and training service the best in Europe, we are investing hundreds of millions every year under our school capital investment programme to provide new schools and extensions to benefit thousands of students across the country. Today is a great day for the whole school community. Students in Tramore will now greatly benefit from these new state of the art facilities.”

Minister of State for Training and Skills, John Halligan, T.D., joined Minister Bruton at the opening.

Minister of State Halligan said:

“I am delighted to join Daithi de Paor, his staff and the parents and pupils of Gaelscoil Philip Barun today to mark the official opening of their new school. They deserve great credit for all their hard work over the years. There is no doubt that the new building has been a great addition to the Tramore area since it opened its doors to students this academic year and will continue to be for generations to come."

There were 217 pupils enrolled in the school in September 2016.

The school which caters for both boys and girls operates under the patronage of the Bishop of Waterford/Lismore. The school was granted permanent recognition in 1996.

The contract was awarded to S & K Carey Ltd following competitive tender and the project cost in the region of €2.7m (including Construction Costs, professional Fees & furniture and equipment).
