Minister D’Arcy travels to Southern Europe to promote Ireland’s EBA bid

This morning (01-Nov-17) Michael D’Arcy TD, Minister of State for financial services, departs for Southern Europe to promote Ireland’s bid to host the European Banking Authority (EBA). His 3-day programme will take in bilateral meetings in the European capitals of Nicosia, Valletta and Athens.
The Minister will also use this opportunity to promote Ireland’s financial services sector and to engage with Irish business communities active in these markets.
Speaking on his programme Minister D’Arcy noted,
“Ireland is a thriving and sophisticated European Financial Centre. Financial services employs over 90,000 people with most recent annual exports of over €33 billion. We have strong links with the North American and Asian markets. We are committed to Europe, and committed to ensuring the ongoing integrity, dynamism and strength of the European financial system. The continuity of Banking Authority operations is key to this. These are the reasons and rationale that I am putting to my European colleagues for Dublin as the obvious choice to host the Authority.”
This programme continues on from extensive canvassing engagements and will be followed by further bilateral engagements at ministerial and official level over the coming weeks in advance of the Council decision on the 20th of November.
