Treaty will boost confidence in Ireland and confidence in the Euro – Creighton

The Minister for European Affairs, Lucinda Creighton TD, this evening welcomed the opportunity to put the European Stability Treaty to the Irish people. The Minister stated her confidence that the electorate will agree that passing this Treaty will constitute another important step in rebuilding Ireland's economy and increasing international confidence in our economic recovery.

Minister Creighton said: "I look forward to having a conversation about the reality of what this Treaty is about: regaining our economic footing over the period ahead; maintaining the visibly increasing investor confidence in the Irish economic model as displayed by recent jobs announcements and doing everything possible to ensure that we remain an attractive country to invest in."

"This Treaty is about restoring confidence. It also provides us with an opportunity to enhance the existing confidence shown by international investors in the Irish economy."

"What's vital for our continued economic stability and recovery is that there are no doubts at home or abroad about Ireland's willingness to do what it takes to prosper inside the single currency area, including responsible budgeting."

Ends.
