Minister Creighton takes Irish EU Presidency to the United States

European Affairs Minister Lucinda Creighton will travel to the United States this evening as Ireland’s EU Presidency enters its final phase. The Minister will have high-level talks on the potential EU-US trade partnership which has been a key presidency priority. Minister Creighton will also deliver addresses at Columbia University in New York and the European Institute in Washington.

On Tuesday the Minister will meet the Irish State Agency & business network in New York to discuss investment opportunities in the United States and Ireland.

She will then travel to Washington on Wednesday for meetings at the State Department to discuss current EU and bilateral issues, including immigration reform.

On Thursday the Minister will meet the Acting USTR Ambassador Miriam Sapiro, to discuss the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership negotiations, followed by a round table discussion hosted by the US Chamber of Commerce. Minister Creighton will end her programme with a meeting with National Security Staff responsible for Ireland and Europe at the White House.

Speaking ahead of the visit, Minister Creighton said:

There is a clear recognition in the United States of the progress of the Irish EU Presidency, particularly on the trade and investment partnership. This visit is an opportunity to give key audiences more detail on the work the presidency has completed and to make move forward our remaining goals as we enter the final weeks. I am also looking forward to meeting Irish and US business representatives and exploring opportunities for investment in the United States and Ireland.
