Taoiseach to host British-Irish Council Summit Meeting to focus on youth unemployment and misuse of drugs

Taoiseach Enda Kenny will host the British-Irish Council Summit in Dublin Castle today. 

This meeting which will be attended by leaders and Ministers from London, Belfast, Edinburgh, Cardiff, Jersey, Guernsey and the Isle of Man, will also see the first official visit to Dublin of British Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg, MP.

The British-Irish Council will discuss current economic developments.   In particular, the Taoiseach will invite the leaders to consider the challenge posed by youth unemployment, and the policy implications for each Member Administration in overcoming this critical issue.

There will also be a substantial discussion on tackling the misuse of drugs, with a focus on rehabilitation and recovery from problem drug use. Minister of State with responsibility for Ireland’s Drugs Strategy Róisín Shortall, T.D will chair this discussion.
