Taoiseach Meets with Prime Minister of Malta

Taoiseach Enda Kenny welcomed the Prime Minister of Malta, the Hon. Dr Lawrence Gonzi, to Government Buildings today as part of ongoing engagement with EU Heads of Government in advance of Ireland assuming the EU Presidency.

The Taoiseach hosted a working lunch where discussions focused on Irish EU Presidency priorities, bilateral issues and broader EU matters.

Speaking at a press conference after the lunch, the Taoiseach said:

I wanted to give the Prime Minister an outline of our intentions and priorities for the Presidency. The theme of Jobs and Growth runs through our Presidency. We share a common understanding that it is vital for Europe’s continued economic recovery we back up the political commitment we entered into with the Compact for Jobs and Growth with concrete measures, including measures to further enhance the potential of the Single Market and an increased focus on the EU external trade agenda.
