Visit by Minister of State for External Affairs of India, Mrs. Preneet Kaur

The Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade, Mr. Eamon Gilmore T.D., and the Minister of State for External Affairs of India, Mrs. Preneet Kaur, unveiled a bust of the celebrated Indian poet Rabindranath Tagore in St. Stephen’s Green in Dublin this afternoon.

The two Ministers later launched a bilingual Irish/English version of Tagore’s work "Stray Birds/Éanlaith Strae" in Iveagh House by Gabriel Rosenstock.

2011 marks the 150th anniversary of the birth of Tagore, the renowned Indian poet, and friend of W.B. Yeats.

Following these events the Tánaiste also held a bilateral meeting with Minister Kaur. The Minister for Children and Youth Affairs, Frances Fitzgerald T.D., hosted a Government lunch in honour of Minister Kaur.

During her visit, Minister Kaur will also meet the Minister for Agriculture, Simon Coveney T.D., tomorrow (18 October), to discuss the prospects for future trade and cooperation between Ireland and India in the food sector, and will attend a number of functions organised by the Indian Embassy and the Ireland India Business Association.
