Minister Sherlock launches the CIT Continuing Education Prospectus 2012/13

The Minister for Research and Innovation, Seán Sherlock TD, today launched Cork Institute of Technology’s (CIT) Continuing Education Prospectus for the 2012/13 academic year. The prospectus provides details on the part-time programmes available across all the faculties and colleges of CIT.

In launching the prospectus, Minister Sherlock highlighted CIT’s record for delivery of education to the people of Cork and beyond and, in particular, its reputation for developing flexible learning opportunities that allow people to up-skill and re-skill on a part time basis.

Speaking at the launch at the Bishopstown campus this evening, Minister Sherlock said: “Engaging with higher education on a full time basis is not always going to be an option for people with work or family commitments. In developing and expanding its flexible learning provision, CIT is allowing greater accessibility to students and facilitating a much more diverse student body.”

“There are more than 200 programmes detailed in the new Continuing Education Prospectus and, with courses available across a range of disciplines and qualification levels, there is something to suit all learners.”

The Minister referred to the Government’s Springboard programme, which is part of the Jobs Initiative, and specifically addresses the needs of unemployed people to re-skill and up-skill in areas of economic growth.

CIT is offering Springboard courses, and Minister Sherlock said, “By providing these courses, CIT is helping to create jobs. Our potential for economic renewal and development relies on our capacity and reputation for producing highly skilled, creative and innovative graduates. The expansion of learning opportunities, such as those here in CIT, will play an important role in this."
