Minister Noonan thanks Ryanair for prompt and positive response to Budget 2014

Looks forward to additional routes being added in the coming weeks

The Minister for Finance, Mr. Michael Noonan T.D. today (24th October 2013) welcomed the announcement by Ryanair of 8 new routes from Shannon, bringing an additional 300,000 passengers per annum and supporting 300 new on-site jobs at Shannon. This decision comes as a direct result of the Budget 2014 announcement to reduce the Air Travel Tax to €0. Ryanair announced after Budget 2014 that they will bring an extra one million passengers to Ireland in 2014 and the announcement at Shannon today is the first 300,000.

Welcoming the announcement Minister Michael Noonan stated:

“The decision by Ryanair to bring 8 new routes and 300,000 extra passengers to Shannon in 2014 as a direct result of the reduction of the Air Travel Tax to €0 in Budget 2014 is a very welcome boost to tourism and businesses in Shannon and the region. I would like to thank Ryanair for their prompt and positive response to Budget 2014 and I look forward to announcement by Ryanair of extra routes and passengers across Ireland in the coming weeks.

The decision to reduce the Air Travel Tax to €0 and the retention of the VAT rate for the tourism sector at 9%, coupled with the highest quality of service and scenery unique to Ireland, will ensure that Ireland remains an attractive and competitive destination for tourists. I am sure that 2014 will be a very good year for the tourism industry in Ireland.”
