Varadkar advertises State jobs to public

Transport Minister Leo Varadkar has today published adverts in the national press seeking board members for a number of state agencies.

The adverts seek expressions of interest from suitably qualified and experienced persons for non-executive positions on a variety of Boards, including CIE, Dublin Bus and Iarnród Éireann.

This move is a break from the tradition of Ministers directly appointing positions. As Minister Varadkar said...

It’s an opportunity to bring a new impetus and freshness of approach to these Boards and it also it underpins the commitments this Government has given in our Programme for Government

  • The Board of CIE (as chairperson);
  • The Board of Dublin Bus (as chairperson);
  • The Board of Iarnród Éireann (as chairperson);
  • The Board of the Railway Procurement Agency (RPA) (as chairperson);
  • To fill vacancies that will arise over the coming 12 months on other Boards under the remit of the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport.

Speaking this morning the Minister said...

This is a real opportunity for suitably qualified and experienced people to shape the policy and direction of the important agencies under my Department
