Varadkar commends transport companies & authorities for ongoing response to storms

Minister for Transport, Tourism & Sport Leo Varadkar has commended the transport companies, local authorities and other bodies which have responded to the serious weather situation and continue to work on the clean-up.

“We have seen an unprecedented number of storms over the last few weeks and the response teams have been exceptional. They still face a huge task in restoring power, water, or simply just cleaning up over the next few days, and there is more severe weather to come.

“I want to express particular gratitude to the transport companies which did fantastic work in keeping services operational in very difficult circumstances. Staff in Dublin Bus, Bus Éireann and Iarnród Éireann worked through the night in many cases to keep public transport running. In particular, Iarnród Éireann staff cleared numerous fallen trees and debris from lines. Airport staff worked hard to minimise disruptions wherever possible. Local authorities and their staff deserve particular mention for coordinating efforts at county level, keeping people informed of progress, and especially for clearing the roads of debris.

“I also want to thank the Coast Guard and its volunteers who have continued their life-saving work in the most of challenging conditions in the last few days."
