The Minister for Justice and Equality, Alan Shatter, T.D., has decided to
appoint the following non-judicial persons to the Judicial Appointments
Advisory Board for a term of three years with effect from 7th June 2011;
Dr. Simon Boucher
Karen Dent, B.Comm, Dip.in Prof Acc., F.C.A.
Dr. Valerie Bresnihan
The three year term of the previous non-judicial members of the Board
expired on 8 March 2011.
The Courts and Court Officers Act 1995 provides that the non-judicial
members shall be persons engaged in or having knowledge or experience of
commerce, finance, administration or be persons who have experience as
consumers of the services provided by the courts that the Minister
considers appropriate.

Biographical Details for Editors:
Dr. Boucher
Dr. Boucher is Registrar and Head of Graduate Studies at the Irish
Management Institute. He is also an IMI Executive Learning Director,
specialising in the area of leadership. He is a graduate of Trinity College
Dublin (1st Class Hons. Business Studies & Political Science) and he
completed a Masters and PhD at Florence’s European University Institute.
Ms. Dent
Ms. Dent is a Chartered Accountant with a background in financial control.
She has worked in University College Dublin for over twenty years,
lecturing in financial accounting and management accounting on a range of
undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in the Quinn School of Business
and The Michael Smurfit Graduate Business School. She was the National
Parents Council Post Primary representative on the Consultative Committee
of the Crisis Pregnancy Agency from 2005 to 2009.
Dr. Bresnihan
Dr. Bresnihan (PhD NUI, 1997) researched and taught in Equality Studies and
the Department of Politics in UCD (1984-1999). She served on the Mountjoy
Prison Visiting Committee from 1996-2000. Following this, she became
Chairperson and later Executive Director of the Irish Penal Reform Trust.
She has carried out social research in a variety of areas over many years,
particularly in penal policy.
