Ireland’s participation at the 56th International Art Exhibition La Biennale di Venezia 2015

Invitation to Tender for Commissioner for Ireland

The Culture Ireland division of the Department of Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht, in partnership with the Arts Council, has issued an open call for the appointment of the Commissioner for the 56th International Arts Biennale in Venice in 2015. The Commissioner will be responsible for the delivery of Ireland’s national presentation at the Venice Biennale 2015 and the subsequent national tour in 2016.

The International Art Exhibition – La Biennale di Venezia - has been long regarded as the foremost showcase for visual arts in the world and represents a unique opportunity to raise the profile of Irish artists and increase their international opportunities. The Venice Biennale serves as a global showcase for artists and offers a prominent platform for Irish artists to engage with international audiences, curators and gallerists.

Last year was a particularly strong year for Irish art at Venice. Richard Mosse’s The Enclave was a major success attracting more than 78,000 visitors and securing a nomination for the Deutsche Borse Photography Prize 2014. This exhibition is running in the RHA in Dublin and will open at Ormston House as part of Limerick City of Culture from 28th March 2014.

The deadline for applications for Commissioner for 2015 is 5pm on 24 March 2014. Details can be found on http://www.cultureireland.ie/.
