Jimmy Deenihan, T.D., Minister for Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht
today (Monday 6th June, 2011), announced the allocations to individual
projects under the Department’s Structures at Risk Fund. Grant offers
have been made to 23 Local Authorities for 31 conservation projects. The
relevant structures are in private and in civic ownership.
Minister said, “This year my Department is in a position to assist with
31 conservation projects. The funding of €650,000 has been allocated to
ensure that the most vulnerable aspects of Ireland’s architectural
heritage can be preserved. It is important to note that only structures
in immediate danger of significant deterioration qualified for
consideration under this scheme”
The Structures at Risk Fund is intended to assist with works to
safeguard structures protected under the Planning and Development Acts
2000-2010 and, in certain cases, works to structures within
Architectural Conservation Areas. Details of the operation of the scheme
issued to each local authority in March 2011.
