Minister Deenihan to unveil ‘Brian Ború Millennium Crown’

Thursday, 17 April, 2014: Jimmy Deenihan TD, Minister for Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht, will this morning formally unveil a commemorative crown in honour of Brian Ború at Dublin Castle. The event is part of a fundraising initiative by ‘Jewels for Cures’ to raise money for cancer research.

‘Jewels For Cures’ raises funds for cancer research and for the Cancer Clinical Research Trust (CCRT) and has gathered jewellery to create the ‘Brian Ború Millennium Crown’. The crown is made from gold and silver donated by the Irish people and the diaspora. Following its unveiling the Brian Boru Millennium Crown will be donated to the Irish people and put on public display. The crown and the 2014 Descendancy Scroll will then travel throughout Ireland and overseas as a commemoration of Brian Ború.

Speaking in advance of the event, Minister Deenihan said:

“I would like to commend the work of the Cancer Clinical Research Trust, the beneficiaries of this project. It is fitting that something beautiful has been created to support their endeavours. I thank everyone involved for their efforts and generosity in getting the project to this stage and I sincerely hope that the crown helps ‘Jewels for Cures’ in their fundraising efforts, for what is a most worthy cause.”
