Sir Keith Pearson to be new Chair of Tallaght Hospital
The Minister for Health Dr. James Reilly T.D. has today (13 December 2011) welcomed the nomination of Sir Keith Pearson, by The Most Reverend Dr Michael Jackson, Archbishop of Dublin, to the Board of Tallaght Hospital. Subject to election by the board, Sir Keith will be the new Independent Chair of Tallaght Hospital Board following a major re-structuring of its governance arrangements.
Sir Keith is highly regarded for his healthcare expertise and knowledge gained from more than 30 years of working in the healthcare sector. He has an excellent track record of achievement in the NHS in Britain. He is the current Chairman of the NHS Confederation, the independent membership body for the full range of organisations that make up the modern NHS. He has held appointments in the NHS dating back to 1998. Sir Keith's most recent appointment in the NHS was as chair of the East of England Strategic Health Authority. He is also Chairman of the General Medical Council (GMC) Medical Revalidation Programme Board.
Sir Keith said on his appointment:
"I am delighted to accept appointment by the Minister to the Board of Tallaght Hospital. The Hospital was born from a long tradition of health care provision to the communities that it serves.
My priority will be to put the governance of the Hospital on a secure, modern footing, and I look forward to working with my fellow Board members, the new Chief Executive, Eilish Hardiman, and her team, to help bring this about".
The Minister thanked Sir Keith for agreeing to take up this important appointment, and said that the names of the full nine-member Interim Board will be announced shortly.
The Minister expressed his thanks to the outgoing Board members for their commitment and endeavours on behalf of Tallaght Hospital and the community it serves.
Notes for Editors
The Minister announced recently that with the agreement of the three Foundations at Tallaght, there would be a new Interim Board to replace the current structure which is too large. The new Interim Board will comprise nine people appointed by the Minister and the three foundations. They will have the competencies and backgrounds required for the good governance of the Hospital.
