Statement on proposed amendments to the Constitution

This week the Government put two proposed amendments to the Constitution to the people; the 29th amendment on judges pay and the 30th amendment on Oireachtas inquiries. We welcome that the 29th amendment has been resoundingly passed by the people.

It is disappointing that the 30th amendment has been narrowly defeated but the Constitution is something that belongs to the people and we acknowledge and accept the people’s democratic decision. We will reflect and carefully consider the outcome of this referendum.
