Taoiseach Enda Kenny travels to the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland

Taoiseach Enda Kenny is in Davos, Switzerland to attend the annual meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF).  The Minister for Finance Michael Noonan is also attending the Forum which takes place during Ireland’s Presidency of the European Union.

The World Economic Forum annual meeting is attended by political and business leaders and heads of international organisations. The theme of this year’s meeting is ‘Resilient Dynamism.’ The Taoiseach and Minister Noonan will use their time in Davos to set out Ireland’s EU priorities including for the Presidency, and to promote Ireland as a location for international business and investment.

The Taoiseach is participating in a number of formal events on the programme on prevailing global economic matters. These include a plenary panel session today entitled “Eurozone Crisis -  the way forward” where the Taoiseach is participating alongside Prime Minister of Italy, Mario Monti, Prime Minister of the Netherlands, Mark Rutte and the Prime Minister of Denmark, Helle Thorning-Schmidt.

This evening, the Taoiseach and Minister Noonan will participate in an event organised by IDA Ireland for senior executives of major international companies.  The Taoiseach will also meet individually with leaders of several major multinational firms in the margins of the WEF during his time in Davos.

Tomorrow, the Taoiseach will address the Transatlantic Business Dialogue, which brings together leading figures from US and European business.  The main focus of the meeting will be to set out the priorities for Ireland’s Presidency of the European Union including strengthening the EU-US trade and investment relationship.
