Taoiseach Meets with Xi Jinping, Vice President of China

The Taoiseach Enda Kenny today met with the Chinese Vice President H.E. Mr Xi Jinping for talks in Beijing, on the second day of his official visit to China.

Following the meeting the Taoiseach said that the Vice President spoke of his exceptionally fond memories of his recent visit to Ireland, particularly the visit to the farm in the west of Ireland and views of the Cliffs of Moher as well as the performance of Riverdance at Belvedere College in Dublin.

The Taoiseach said the two men followed through on discussions they had in Dublin in relation to a number of different sectors, such as trade, investment, education and tourism. Mr Kenny said the Vice President reiterated he was absolutely committed to working with Ireland in strengthening these relationships.

The Taoiseach said he now wants to move on to strengthen and cement relationships. He also confirmed that there would be a series of Ministerial meetings in the months ahead which are intended to build on the work already done in a variety of sectors.
