Applications invited for position of Director of Public Prosecutions

Applications are invited from suitably qualified persons to fill the position of Director of Public Prosecutions.

The Office of Director of Public Prosecutions was established under the Prosecution of Offences Act, 1974. The function of the Director is the direction and supervision of public prosecutions and related criminal matters in accordance with the relevant legal provisions. The post of Director of Public Prosecutions will become vacant upon the completion of the current Director’s term of office in November 2021.


Applicants must:


• be a practising barrister or a practising solicitor,
and
• have practised as a barrister or solicitor for at least
ten years.


Service for any period in a position in the Civil Service, for appointment to which practice as a barrister or solicitor was a necessary qualification, will be regarded as practice as a barrister or a solicitor for that period and persons, while holding such positions, will be regarded as practising barristers or practising solicitors as the case may be.


Applications will be considered by the Committee established under the Prosecution of Offences Act, 1974 to select candidates for appointment to the office. Candidates may be interviewed; in such an event the Committee may, at their discretion, decide that a number only of the applicants shall be invited to attend for interview. The appointment will be made by the Government.
