Appointments to the High Court

At its meeting today, the Government decided to nominate Judge Michael White who is currently a Judge of the Circuit Court and Mr. Kevin Cross, S.C., for appointment by the President to the High Court.

These appointments are to fill the vacancies, which arose from the retirements of the Hon. Mr. Justice Bryan McMahon and the late Hon. Mr Justice Vivian Lavan in April and May this year respectively.

The Government have taken the necessary steps to formally advise President McAleese of the nominations in accordance with Constitutional procedures.

Born in 1953, Judge White, graduated from University College Dublin in 1973 and was admitted as a solicitor in 1975. Prior to his appointment to the Circuit Court in 1996, he practised as a solicitor for twenty years.

Born in 1951, Mr. Kevin Cross, S.C., graduated in 1974 from University College Dublin, was called to the Bar in 1975 and the Inner Bar in 1997. Mr. Cross has had an active general practice for 33 years.
