Minister Varadkar backs global Twitter initiative for President Obama’s visit

Minister for Transport, Tourism & Sport Leo Varadkar has backed efforts to make President Obama’s visit to Ireland one of the most globally talked-about subjects on Twitter.

This Irish-based initiative is today (Monday) hoping to get the world talking about the President’s visit, by encouraging Twitter users to use the #IRLday hashtag whenever they tweet.

Minister Varadkar said today:

These are extraordinary times for Ireland and a real opportunity to show the world that we have turned a corner. The visit of President Obama is a fantastic opportunity to promote Ireland to the world. The initiative to make President Obama’s visit one of the global trending topics on Twitter is a great way to do that.

Our tourism industry is a bedrock for future growth. So any effort to get Ireland promoted around the world deserves our full backing. I would encourage anyone with access to a Twitter account to include the #IRLday hashtag in their tweets.
