Summer Legislative Programme sets targets for progress across Government Departments
Government Chief Whip Paul Kehoe today announced the Legislative Programme for the Summer Parliamentary session of 2012.
Speaking after the Cabinet approved the Government’s Legislative Programme Minister Kehoe said:
In the next Dáil term the Government will publish Bills from Finance focusing on Fiscal Responsibility, Credit Union Regulation and the European Stability Mechanism. The Department of Justice will publish legislation on a number of areas of the Criminal Justice system along with reforming the law on mental capacity, establishing a National Vetting Bureau and introducing a new system of Personal Insolvency. Legislation will also be published on areas including Forestry, the Gaeltacht, Residential Tenancies, the price and supply of medical goods.
The Minister added:
In just over a year in office 55 Bills have been published and 46 Acts of the Oireachtas passed by this Government.
To facilitate the increased workload the number of Dáil sitting days has been increased by over 44%. There have been 127 Dáil sitting days in this Government’s first year in office compared with 88 Dáil sitting days in the previous Government’s last year in office.
