Minister Doyle announces appointment of Frank Nyhan as Chair of Bord na gCon

The Minister of State with responsibility for the Greyhound Industry, Andrew Doyle, confirmed the appointment of Mr Frank Nyhan as Chair of Bord na gCon by the Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Michael Creed.

Minister Doyle said;

I am delighted to confirm the appointment of Mr. Nyhan to the post of Chair of Bord na gCon and I am confident that he will provide innovative strategic leadership and direction to the greyhound racing sector.

Mr Nyhan was appointed following a competitive process conducted by PAS.

The Minister added

the next five years will see major challenges for Ireland, particularly in the context of Brexit, and Bord na gCon will benefit from continuity in strong leadership. I wish Mr Nyhan every success in this leadership role in promoting a sustainable greyhound racing and breeding industry, one that will expand employment and create the maximum contribution to the Irish economy.

Minister Doyle went on to pay tribute to the outgoing Chair, Phil Meaney,

I wish to place on the record my deep appreciation of Phil Meaney’s commitment in chairing Bord na gCon since 2011. His business experience, effective chairing of the Board and work with the organisation has delivered tangible results. Phil has done an exceptional job at the helm of Bord na gCon. He has been steadfast in his commitment to promoting and developing the greyhound racing industry and in steering it through a very challenging period. I wish him every success in all his future endeavours.

Mr Nyhan’s professional memberships include:

  • Fellow Chartered Institute of Arbitrators 1993 to date
  • CEDR Accredited Mediator
  • President State Solicitors Association

Mr Nyhan’s professions experience includes:

  • Serves as State Solicitor in the City of Cork
  • Member of the Panel of Chairpersons of the Mental Health Tribunals
  • Member of the Ethics Committee for the Cork Teaching Hospitals
  • On the IASSA Panel for appointment to Preliminary Enquiry Committees pursuant to Section 23 of the Companies (Auditing and Accounting) Act 2003.

Mr Nyhan is already serving on the Board of Bord na gCon, he was appointed as an ordinary member of the Board on the 21st December 2015 for a 5 year period.
