Minister Madigan invites young people to Wilder Youth – an evening exploring Irish Youth and their creativity with Tara Stewart

The Minister for Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht, Josepha Madigan, TD, and the Creative Ireland Programme are inviting young people (14-21 year olds) to join 2FM DJ Tara Stewart when she hosts Wilder Youth, an event that celebrates the incredible energy of Ireland's young creative practitioners. Wilder Youth will be held at the Chocolate Factory, Dublin 1 on 22nd October 2019. It is the first of a series of events that will be held around the country as part of the Creative Conversations programme.

Joining Tara will be breakout hip-hop duo, Tebi Rex, actor and writer Roxanna Nic Liam, podcaster Molly Parsons and Junk Kouture fashion designer Cian Newman.

As well as a live set from the hip-hop duo, Tebi Rex, Tara Stewart and the guests will talk about their own experiences of making work, their creative process, how they've been supported in their work in music, theatre and fashion and what more can be done to help other young people realise their potential. They'll also discuss the mental health benefits of a creative life, the tension between hobby and career and the challenges of bringing creativity to life.

Commenting on the event Minister Madigan said:

The Creative Ireland Programme aims to improve the quality of all our lives by placing access to culture and creativity at the centre of our society. Our creative young people are so innovative and have so much to offer. We want to put a spotlight on their extraordinary talent and hear what moves them to make their art

EDITORS NOTE

The Creative Ireland Programme is an all-of-Government, culture-based initiative designed to promote individual, community and national wellbeing. The core proposition is that participation in cultural activity drives personal and collective creativity, with significant implications for individual and societal wellbeing and achievement.

It is built around five pillars: Enabling the Creative Potential of Every Child; Enabling Creativity in Every Community; Investing in our Creative and Cultural Infrastructure; Ireland as a Centre of Excellence in Media Production; Unifying our Global reputation. You can find out more here.

Tara Stewart is a 2FM radio presenter making waves on the Irish music scene. When she’s not gracing the national airwaves, Tara can be found DJ-ing at high profile gigs around the country (including top festivals like Electric Picnic) and writing for a number of publications including District Magazine. Growing up in Australia's outback, Tara decided to make Dublin her home in 2011 and has become a force to be reckoned with on the creative scene. Her arresting personality and unique sense of style has built her a loyal online following of over 15,000 people and has afforded her the opportunity to collaborate with global brands. Never one to shy away from speaking her mind, Tara uses her profile and platform to highlight issues she feels strongly about including women's rights and sustainability.

Molly Parsons spends her time interviewing 90s babies, generation z, and those "lazy millenials" we all know and love. Her podcast is a place of opinions and stories from twenty somethings from all different paths and places on any topic we can muster, be that identity, art or activism.  Molly is currently working with RTE as a researcher on a sustainability project while working in retail and on her podcast each week.

Tebi Rex established themselves as one of the leading names on the Irish music scene in 2018, having staked their claim with a succession of well received tracks. The singles 'Men Are Trash' (making both the UK and Irish Viral Top 50 charts) and 'Peggy's Bus'; debut EP Welcome To The Darkest Year Of Our Adventures; collaborations with the likes of Eve Belle; triumphant festival appearances at Longitude, Electric Picnic, Indiependence and Other Voices; being named as one of RTE 2FM's Rising acts for 2019 - all contributed to an incredible year for the duo. Making their first UK appearance with two shows at The Great Escape, three singles - including ‘Financial Controller’, remixed by Watsky collaborator Kush Moody, and Irish radio hit ‘I Never Got Off The Bus’ - have led to the release of their debut album The Young Will Eat The Old. Praised by the likes of The Irish Times, Dan Hegarty, The Line Of Best Fit, Hot New Hip-Hop and Today FM, the record has already been acclaimed as one of the domestic releases of the year.

Cian Newman was Dublin Region Finalist of Junk Kouture 2019 from St. Aidans C.B.S
