Minister welcomes unions’ decision

The Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport, Shane Ross T.D., today welcomed the trade unions’ decision to suspend their industrial action while their members ballot on the Recommendation. He stated –

“Passengers, workers and the company all need to see this dispute resolved in a realistic, fair and sustainable manner. It was a positive step earlier this week when the two parties to the dispute accepted the Labour Court’s invitation to a hearing, and it is very welcome news today that the Court has now issued its considered Recommendation.  I am sure the travelling public welcomes the announcement that the unions are suspending industrial action while the ballot takes place.”

The Minister noted the Labour Court’s observations about the benefit of a forum on the public transport sector. He is eager and determined to resume the process at an early date, as soon as the current dispute has been resolved.

The Minister thanked both parties to the dispute – the unions and the company – for engaging in the resolution process.

He also thanked the Labour Court and the WRC for their work in relation to the dispute.
