Ministers Ross and Griffin congratulate Cork dual player Rena Buckley on her sporting career

The Minster for Transport, Tourism and Sport, Mr. Shane Ross, TD, and the Minister with responsibility for Sport, Mr. Brendan Griffin, TD, today congratulated Cork dual player Rena Buckley on her sporting career as she retires from inter-county football and camogie.

Minister Ross said:

I would like to congratulate Rena on her wonderful sporting career in inter-county football and camogie with Cork. Rena has had an incredible career in both codes and is the most decorated Gaelic Games player of all time with 18 All-Ireland titles in football and camogie and 10 All Stars. She has been a fantastic ambassador for women’s sport in Ireland and an inspiration for all up and coming young players. I would like to wish Rena and her family well in the future in all that she does.

Minister Griffin added:

I would like to acknowledge the enormous contribution Rena has made to football and camogie following confirmation of her retirement today. Rena has always been totally committed to her sports and to everything she does and I have no doubt that she will make a huge success of whatever she does in the future. I am sure Rena will still have much to offer her clubs Inniscarra in camogie and Donoughmore in football for some time yet.
