Deenihan opens exhibition and talks: Limerick City's Georgian Buildings and Streets in the Hunt Museum
Saturday, 10th May, 2014: Minister for Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht, Jimmy Deenihan T.D. will this afternoon (4.00pm) officially open an exhibition of traditional building skills, demonstrations and conservation talks in the Hunt Museum in Limerick. The event is aimed at anyone interested in period buildings, architectural conservation and traditional building skills.
The event is organised by the Irish Georgian Society, Limerick City Council and hosted by the Hunt Museum. The exhibition will be an opportunity to see demonstrations by leading conservation practitioners of thatching, slating, lime mortar use, repair of historic windows, decorative plasterwork, ironwork and many more traditional building skills necessary for the upkeep of old buildings. In tandem with the exhibition will be two days of conservation talks and historic walking tours.
Minister Deenihan commented:
“This exhibition of Traditional Building Skills Demonstrations and Conservation Talks is a celebration of some of the great craftsmanship we have in Ireland today. The importance of a strong foundation of traditional building skills to the conservation and protection of our built heritage is self-evident and supported by my Department via various programmes in this area.”
