The Minister for Arts, Heritage, Regional, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs, Heather Humphreys TD, has congratulated the team in her Department which oversees the genealogy website www.irishgenealogy.ie after it was awarded the "Promoting Ireland Overseas Award" at the Ireland eGovernment Awards.

Speaking today Minister Heather Humphreys TD, said:
“This award is a testament to the hard work of the staff in my Department who have made www.irishgenealogy.ie the go to website for anyone looking to research their Irish Ancestry. Since the addition of the Historic Civil Register images to www.irishgenealogy.ie in September 2016, over half a million visitors have searched the website, with nearly two thirds of those visiting the website doing so from outside Ireland.

“I would like to congratulate the staff in my Department including the National Archives for their work in making this website the success it is today. I would also like to pay tribute to the staff of the General Register Office and the Department of Social Protection for their work in making the Historic Civil Registers available to my Department to put online. This is a great example of how cross Departmental cooperation can deliver very positive results for members of the public.”
