Rabbitte commits to address concerns over Grid25 Programme by end January

Public consultation on Grid Link Project attracts 35,000 submissions

The Minister for Communications, Energy & Natural Resources, Mr. Pat Rabbitte T.D., has committed to respond to the Dáil by the end of January setting out his reaction to recent consultations on Grid Development.

“Following conclusion of the first public consultations on January 7th on the €500 million Grid Link project, I had a productive meeting with the Board of EirGrid last Thursday and I have met with senior management on a number of occasions.

The company advises me that there has been some 35,000 submissions from the public during the public consultation. These are now being sifted through in detail and I have asked EirGrid to let me have an initial report on the main issues raised as soon as possible.

I am satisfied that the value of the public consultation will be determined by the character of the response to the issues raised. I am committed to making a response to the public consultation in Dáil Éireann as soon as an initial report is available.

I expect to be able to do so before the end of the month.”
