Minister announces additional allocation for the completion of the Carriganore Sports Complex in Waterford IT

The Minister for Education and Skills, Ms. Jan O’Sullivan, T.D., has today announced the provision of €2.1m of additional funding for the completion of the Carriganore Sports Complex at Waterford Institute of Technology (WIT). This funding, which will be fully recouped from the Institute through an annual charge, is in addition to funding previously approved in July 2013 on foot of the statutory inspection report of the former chairman of the Revenue Commissioners, Mr Dermot Quigley.
The funding is provided in order to finalise the implementation of the recommendations set out by Mr Quigley in his report. It has been agreed with WIT following an intense series of meetings and discussions over several months which were designed to establish that there was a need for the additional funding and that the provision of the funding would ensure a final resolution of the issues which were the subject of Mr Quigley’s report.
The funding brings the Department’s total outlay towards both the purchase of the Manor Village student accommodation development and the completion of the Sports Complex to €12.1m. The entire funding is repayable.
