Minister Bruton welcomes start of Entrepreneurship Summer Camps for second level students

€250,000 invested to provide nearly 1,000 places on new summer camps in higher education institutions across the country

Minister for Education and Skills, Richard Bruton TD, today (Tuesday 13th June) welcomed the commencement of the entrepreneurship, creativity and innovation summer camps for second level students.

The first summer camp starts in Dublin City University this week. Summer camps will be run in twenty higher educations over the summer months.

The summer camps, which help students get hands-on experience of developing innovative ideas to solve problems and creating new products and services, will build on the expertise in each institution.

Welcoming the new summer camps, Minister Bruton said:
“A goal of the Action Plan for Education is to ensure that entrepreneurship, creativity and innovation are nurtured by the education and training system. This will help sustain our economic recovery and help to adapt our national skills base to meet the challenges of growth in the modern world.

“As Jobs Minister, I set out to ensure we supported a vibrant eco-system for entrepreneurs in Ireland and I’m continuing that work here in education.

“This is the first time that these types of summer camps have been run to enable second level students to engage in activities that stimulate entrepreneurial thinking and design skills among students.

“It’s great to see higher education institutions providing these activities for students so that they get to experience life on a higher education campus.”
