Minister Reilly welcomes selection of design team for relocation of National Maternity Hospital

Minister for Health Dr James Reilly, today (Tuesday, 13th May 2014) welcomed another significant step in the relocation of the National Maternity Hospital to the campus of St Vincent’s University Hospital, Dublin. The tender process for the procurement of Design Team Services for the development has now been concluded and following the selection of the Design Team Members, the HSE yesterday (12th May, 2014) executed the appropriate contracts.

The provision of new maternity facilities co-located with adult acute services in the Greater Dublin Area is a priority for this Government, the Department of Health and the Health Service Executive. The new hospital will provide maternity, gynaecology and neonatal services to the women of Dublin, replacing the existing facilities of the National Maternity Hospital, Holles Street. The Government has approved significant funding to progress this development within the HSE’s capital plan

In conjunction with the Project Board, one of the Design Team’s initial tasks in ‘Stage 1 – Preliminary Design’ will be the further development of a detailed project programme. It is expected that construction work will commence in 2016 and the hospital will be complete in 2019.

“The selection of the design team marks an important milestone in the relocation of our National Maternity Hospital to the St Vincent’s campus. I look forward to seeing the design of the new hospital and the commencement of its construction in 2016” said Minister Reilly.
