Minister Ring announces €2.9M local authority sports scheme for 51 projects nationwide

Minister of State for Tourism & Sport, Michael Ring has today (Friday) announced funding for 51 local authority-backed sports projects across the country.

Minister Ring is providing allocations totalling €2,892,659 million to local authorities for a wide range of sporting projects.

Minister Ring said: ‘I am delighted to announce this funding for sporting facilities to boost participation in sport. A total of 51 separate projects with a grant value of almost €2.9 million have been allocated funding on a provisional basis’.

"This funding is being allocated to projects which will boost participation in sport, such as new playing surfaces, outdoor gym equipment and fitness trails, floodlighting and refurbishment of changing facilities etc"

"I hope to be in a position to announce further allocations in the very near future, pending the receipt of supporting documentation from some local authorities.

"This is not a new round of the Sports Capital Programme, but rather a targeted measure for local authority facilities. No decision has been made on the timing of a new round of the Sports Capital Programme."
