Tánaiste discusses North/South Co-operation with First Minister and Acting Deputy First Minister

The Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade, Eamon Gilmore T.D., met with First Minister, Peter Robinson M.L.A., and Acting Deputy First Minister, John O’Dowd M.L.A., to discuss North/South Co-operation.

The meeting, which took place in Stormont was held in the framework of the North/South Ministerial Council set up under the Good Friday Agreement.

Speaking after the meeting, the Tánaiste said,

“I am pleased to have had this opportunity to meet the First Minister and deputy First Minister today to take stock of North/South Co-operation as we work towards our shared goals of economic recovery and creation of jobs on this island”.

The Ministers discussed practical co-operation in the context of current economic and budgetary challenges facing each jurisdiction. They also discussed the working of the North/South Bodies, Cross-Border Mobility Issues, the North West Gateway Initiative and EU matters of shared interest.
