Minister Kelly encourages everyone to get involved in National Bike Week 2012

Free events taking place all over the country

Minister for Public and Commuter Transport, Alan Kelly TD today encouraged everyone to get involved in the wide range of events taking place this week across the country during National Bike Week 2012. Bike Week 2012 takes place nationwide from 16-24 June this year and Waterford played host to the first major event marking the Week last Saturday.

Speaking today, Minister Kelly said: “Bike Week is Ireland’s biggest event to celebrate cycling and the benefits of cycling. Not only will cycling benefit your pocket, it also has positive benefits for your health and on traffic congestion. This week is all about getting people on their bikes and there are a range of imaginative events to appeal to everyone right across Ireland this week that I hope people of all ages will join in with. Details of all these events in every county is available on www.bikeweek.ie

Whether you want to cycle in Donegal, Wexford, Tipperary, Roscommon, or Kerry, I really want to encourage everyone to get involved. This Wednesday 20 June is National Bike to Work and Cycle to School Day where thousands of commuters and students will join together to celebrate Bike Week.

Minister Kelly concluded: “I hope that this year, National Bike Week 2012 will be our biggest and most successful yet. I really enjoyed launching the opening event in Waterford on Saturday and encourage everyone to get involved this week”.
