Minister of State Kathleen Lynch today launched the first certified brain injury specialist training training in Europe.

Acquired Brain Injury Ireland is the first organisation to collaborate with the Brain Injury Association of America (BIAA) designing an Irish version of the training programme, and Essential Brain Injury Guide, from the Academy of Certified Brain Injury Specialists (ACBIS); delivering training to frontline staff and professionals working with individuals with an acquired brain injury (ABI) in Ireland.

Minister Lynch was at the Davenport Hotel in Dublin to launch the new training programme.

She said:

The benefit of specialised rehabilitation to those living with a brain injury has proven life changing for both the person injured and their families. Community rehabilitation allows these persons to live at home where they belong. This new Certified Brain Injury Specialist (CBIS) training will ensure that more and more of our professionals working in this area will deliver the best rehabilitation possible.

Developed by a number of subject matter experts throughout the country, ABI Ireland has designed an Essential Brain Injury Guide that is a valuable resource for those working in ABI rehabilitation and associated professions.
