Appointment to the Circuit Court

At its meeting today, the Government agreed to nominate Orla Crowe, SC, for appointment as an Ordinary Judge to the Circuit Court by the President of Ireland.

 

The vacancy arose following the retirement of Her Honour Judge Jacqueline Linnane on 15 April 2021.

 

The Government has taken the necessary steps to formally advise President Higgins of the nomination in accordance with constitutional practice.

Limited biographical details:

 

Orla Crowe, SC:

Educated at: Bachelor of Civil Law (BCL), University College Dublin (1988). Post-Graduate, Barrister-at-Law Degree, The Honourable Society of King’s Inns (1990).

Appointed to Junior Counsel: 1990

Appointed to Senior Council: 2016

Appointed to the Board of Irish rule of Law international, is a member of the State Criminal Bar Committee of the bar Council and is a member of the vulnerable Witnesses Training Sub-Committee.

A lecturer in Constitutional Law at King’s Inns from 1998 to 2001.
