Health Ministers sign Memorandum of Understanding on Health Co-Operation between China and Ireland

Health Minister James Reilly today, as part of his official visit to the People's Republic of China, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Chinese Minister for Health, Mr Chen Zhu, on health co-operation.

The main areas of co-operation outlined in the MOU include health regulation; e-Health and telemedicine; medical professional training; health promotion; maternal and child health; hospital standards and traditional Chinese Medicine.

Speaking at the signing Minister Reilly said

This is an important development and is a valuable basis for developing relations and initiatives in the field of health between Ireland and China. We are looking forward to working with Chinese colleagues over the course of the coming years.

Means of co-operation will take the form of exchanging experience, knowledge and information; exchange of specialists for study and consultation and the encouragement of direct links between appropriate institutions in both countries.

The MOU signed today renews a previous MOU which had been in place between 2004 and 2009.
