I would like send my very best wishes to the Irish Paralympic Team as they prepare to participate in the opening ceremony of the games in London this evening.

The talent and dedication of the elite athletes of the Irish Paralympic Team is inspiring, and I know that I join with the whole country in wishing them every success in London. I would also like to pay tribute to all who have contributed to preparing the athletes for these games.

For all of our 49 athletes, competing across 10 sports, this is the culmination of years of hard work and commitment. I have no doubt that each and every one of them will do Ireland, and themselves, proud.
